Circularity

Crossing past and future perspectives, this conference will strat with with a contextualisation by Kooenraad Daniels (KU Leuven) of circular concepts developed from the 1960s onwards by Belgian scientist Paul Duvigneaud, a pioneer in the field of urban metabolism. Leading up to a discussion with Anton Maertens (BC Materials), Mathilde Rulens (Plastic Factory) and Benjamin Moncarey (Sonian Wood Coop) contemporary protagonists involved in the creation of a circular economy on a local and global level.

Koenraad Danneels, lecturer in the theory and history of urbanism at KULeuven, will give an overview of Duvigneaud’s oeuvre, focusing on urban metabolism and the role of history as a methodology through which to address climate change.

Anton Maertens, Mathilde Rulens and Benjamin Moncarey work on the forefront of circular economy, and will engage in a debate on how to make the metabolic city feasible and above all, desirable.
