Horta, Hortus and Camellias

When you pass through the doors of Hortus, you enter a personal, intimate world where, surrounded by camellias, the owner of the property passionately carries out her experiments, the fruit of patient devotion to her garden, some science and a touch of magic. Over the decades, Jacqueline and Jacques (it’s a team effort) have successfully tamed this sloping plot (a former sandpit in which Léon Furnémont once created his ‘countryside’) to create an oasis of calm and serenity that respects nature.
The garden unfolds along a winding path, revealing different scenes depending on the relief and orientation: a wooded area with evergreens (mainly camellias) and the hillside, a real sand dune with Mediterranean accents.
Those plants that are sensitive to cold are housed in the magnificent winter garden that Horta designed for his friend. Don’t miss it!
