Long and narrow

This is a typical Brussels garden, one that stretches out, long and narrow. But its owners have given it a strong personality by breaking up the space according to the sun’s path. A succession of contrasting surfaces – a terrace of Burgundy flagstones, a brick-edged path, a grassy area and a shed on a paved courtyard – gently punctuate the walk from one end to another. Plants and bushes form stunning beds along the path. And from the house, the view descends through an archway overgrown with roses onto an alder tree at the far end.
